The Dutch gambling authority has taken a new step in its national harm-prevention strategy. Kansspelautoriteit has approved almost 2 million euros in funding for a coordinated project designed to detect gambling-related problems earlier and strengthen support pathways across the country.
Good to Know
Kansspelautoriteit confirmed that the Early Detection of Gambling Harm Partnership will launch with backing from leading Dutch health and addiction organisations. Trimbos Institute, the Dutch Association of Addiction Specialists, the Municipal Health Service and the Dutch Debt Assistance Route have each committed to the joint programme.
The initiative aims to bring various experts and local bodies together to identify risky behaviour sooner and offer coordinated assistance. Addiction treatment institutions, municipal agencies and peer support groups will take part in the national framework. Funding from KSA will support these collaborations and allow the organisations to expand their capacity for early intervention.
KSA Chairman Michel Groothuizen said the project will help align different systems and simplify access to assistance. He stated:
“With this partnership, we permanently bring together knowledge, healthcare, debt counselling and local partners. This makes it easier to find help, and players can get the support they need more quickly. This is an important step towards better consumer protection.”
