A more formal phase of development began in Baton Rouge as Bally’s prepared to introduce a new land-based casino on December 6. The project follows an investment exceeding 160 million dollars and represents the approved relocation of the former riverboat facility, The Belle of Baton Rouge, onto land.
Good to Know
The Louisiana Gaming Control Board authorised Bally’s to stop gaming at 2 a.m. on November 14. That closure enables staff to relocate slot machines, kiosks and table-game equipment into the new property.
The relocation was approved in 2023, allowing The Belle of Baton Rouge to shift from a riverboat model to a full land-based operation. The new casino includes a DraftKings-powered sportsbook, a designated smoking area, a central bar and a two-lane bowling alley.
Regulators also approved the property sports wagering licence and adopted an update to responsible-gaming policy. Individuals listed on the exclusion register may now request removal after two years rather than a longer period.
The venue features close to 800 slot machines and between 20 and 25 table games. A redesigned food hall will open alongside the casino, inspired by the historic Illinois Central Freight Station. Dining locations include Hearth Pizzeria, Shuck’s Oyster Bar, Vintage 1806 and Maritime Coffee.
The broader rebrand means the property now operates under the Bally’s Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel name. The hotel itself opened in March and already carries updated Bally’s signage.
Stacy Stagg, senior vice president and regional manager of Bally’s, said:
“We’re thrilled to be this close to the finish line with this beautiful property, and we’re excited to get the general public to come in and view this at the beginning of December.”
General manager Richard Cannon added:
“This has been a very long and exciting journey, and we’ve overcome many obstacles, and as a result, we’ve been able to create a very beautiful and very exciting product.”
Although the casino is targeting a December 6 debut, the property must still receive final clearance from the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. Inspectors are expected to review installation work and facility readiness over the coming weeks.
