ACMA Blocks Nine Additional Illegal Gambling Sites

A new enforcement notice from the Australian Communications and Media Authority expanded the list of digital platforms blocked in Australia for unauthorized gambling activity. The action followed routine monitoring that identified operators offering wagering services without approval.

Good to Know

  • Internet providers were instructed to restrict access to nine additional sites
  • Two of the domains were impersonations of licensed Australian brands
  • More than 1,300 illegal sites have been blocked since 2019

ACMA Adds New Domains To National Block List

Regulators determined that the groups behind the targeted websites were operating without the proper licence required for online gambling in Australia. ACMA asked internet service providers to block access so users cannot reach the platforms.

The newly flagged brands included Cashed, King Maker, Posido, Spinight, Spinsy, The Pokies Reviews and Topio Networks. ACMA also pointed to two imitation sites: wizbet.app mimicked the licensed WizBet brand, and next2go-au.com copied elements of the approved Next2Go service.

Authorities said these operators attempted to attract Australian users through offshore setups with no regulatory oversight or consumer protection framework.

Long Running Enforcement Effort Continues

The announcement added to an extensive series of blocking actions that began five years ago. ACMA noted that:

“Since ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1,369 illegal websites have been blocked. Around 220 illegal services have also pulled out of the Australian market since we started enforcing new illegal online gambling rules in 2017.”

Regulators said the combination of ISP blocking orders and investigative pressure has removed many non-compliant operators from the market. ACMA continues to monitor offshore domains that target Australian users through disguised or misleading promotions.
