The company behind FanDuel and Betfair is attracting more players and taking in more money \u2014 but some accounting adjustments have cut into the bottom line.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong><em>Good to know<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Flutter\u2019s Q2 revenue hit $4.2 billion, up 16% year over year.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>FanDuel remains the top sportsbook in the United States.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Adjusted earnings jumped 25% despite a drop in net profit.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>The April\u2013June period saw Flutter\u2019s average monthly players climb 11% to roughly 16 million worldwide. In the U.S., about 3.5 million people were active on FanDuel each month, up 2% from last year. Sports betting handle in the country rose 7% to $11.7 billion, while total U.S. revenue grew 17% to nearly $1.8 billion.<\/p>\n<h2>Profit Hit From FanDuel Valuation Changes<\/h2>\n<p>Even with higher revenue, net profit fell sharply \u2014 down 88% from the same quarter last year to $37 million. That drop was linked to an $81 million non-cash charge tied to changes in FanDuel\u2019s valuation.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Corp. still holds an option to buy 18.6% of FanDuel for about $4.5 billion, and shifts in the fair value of that option can swing Flutter\u2019s results. Flutter now values the U.S. sportsbook at about $31 billion \u2014 well above the level implied by the Fox option price.<\/p>\n<h2>Strong Performance in Betting and iGaming<\/h2>\n<p>When excluding valuation impacts, Flutter\u2019s adjusted EBITDA rose 25% to $919 million. Jackson said the company\u2019s experience running the Betfair Exchange \u2014 which operates similarly to event contracts \u2014 gives it an advantage if rules change.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe event contracts landscape continues to develop at pace,\u201d<\/em> he said. <em>\u201cWe have two decades\u2019 experience of operating the world\u2019s largest betting exchange, the Betfair Exchange, which shares similar characteristics with event contracts, and this will help inform our views.
