Mayor Eric Adams has officially vetoed the City Council\u2019s move to block Bally\u2019s plan to build a casino in the Bronx, pushing the controversial proposal back into the running for one of three downstate gaming licenses.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em><strong>Good to know<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Bally\u2019s Bronx project is still in contention for a downstate license after the mayor\u2019s veto.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>The plan involves a $4 billion private investment at Ferry Point.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Eight proposals are competing for three licenses expected to be awarded by late 2025.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>Bally\u2019s proposal to bring a casino to its Ferry Point golf course in Throggs Neck was nearly knocked out after the City Council rejected a necessary zoning change. That move, led by Bronx Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato, followed a tradition called \u201cmember deference,\u201d where councilmembers usually support the local representative\u2019s stance on land use decisions.<\/p>\n<p>But Mayor Adams wasn\u2019t on board with the rejection. Bally\u2019s is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/casino-news\/casino-license-race-draws-eight-bidders-across-new-york\/\">eight groups<\/a> seeking approval.<\/p>\n<h2>Tensions Rise Between Mayor and Council<\/h2>\n<p>The veto, Adams\u2019 first involving land use, quickly drew criticism from the Council. So far, City Hall hasn\u2019t addressed those questions publicly.<\/p>\n<p>The final decision now moves to a <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/casino-news\/new-york-casino-licenses-enter-local-review-stage\/\">local siting committee<\/a>, made up of representatives from the governor, mayor, and local officials.
