The Welsh player came out on top in Event #58: $3,000 Nine Game Mix, earning his first bracelet and a career-high payout of $228,115 after outlasting a 409-player field.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong><em>Good to know<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Robert Wells won the $3,000 Nine Game Mix for $228,115.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Both Wells and runner-up Thomas Taylor had finished second in previous WSOP events.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>The win came just one day before the start of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>Wells had come painfully close in 2024 with two second-place finishes in a span of 11 days. This time, he went all the way, defeating Thomas Taylor heads-up for the title. Taylor, coincidentally, also had his own streak of second-place finishes, including one just last week in the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. event.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI came second twice last year, so I know that pain on the other side, so being on this side of it is amazing,\u201d<\/em> Wells said after the win. <em>\u201cIf I could have picked any tournament to win, this would probably be two on the list, besides the PPC.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Path Through a Deep Field<\/h2>\n<p>The tournament drew 409 entries and included a long list of experienced pros. On the final day, 18 players returned with hopes of grabbing the title. But after a short break, Wells turned things around in no-limit hold\u2019em and then pulled ahead during seven card stud eight-or-better. A key moment came when Wells made trips in one hand and two-pair in another to take a strong lead.<\/p>\n<p>It ended, fittingly, in another deuce-to-seven single draw hand.
