But things have taken a turn. After some back and forth, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/poker-news\/phil-hellmuth-wins-record-17th-wsop-bracelet-win-in-event-72-10000-super-turbo-bounty\/\">17-time bracelet winner<\/a><\/strong> has confirmed he will join the tournament after all. His decision followed a Twitter poll and some behind-the-scenes nudging.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em><strong>Good to know<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Phil Hellmuth will enter the WSOP main event despite earlier plans to skip it.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>A Twitter poll swayed his decision, although Hellmuth believes part of it was manipulated.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>He plans a themed entrance and will give away a Ford Mustang with BetRivers.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>Initially, Hellmuth said he would miss the WSOP main event, claiming it had turned into more of an \u201cendurance contest\u201d that favored younger players. He voiced concerns about the changing nature of the tournament and hinted at wanting changes from WSOP organizers.<\/p>\n<p>But a Twitter\/X poll suggested otherwise. With 73% of respondents voting in favor of him playing, Hellmuth started to reconsider. According to him, the idea to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/poker-news\/phil-hellmuth-lets-fans-decide-if-he-plays-wsop-main-event\/\">run the poll<\/a><\/strong> came from his agent, Brian Balsbaugh. He said he never encouraged anyone to bet on whether he would join the main event. In fact, he said he discouraged it.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI told every single person, do not bet on this,\u201d<\/em> he said. <em>\u201cI have a lot of texts where I said, \u2018Don\u2019t bet because I\u2019m not 100% sure.\u2019 The reason that I said don\u2019t bet is because I don\u2019t want them to come and whine later. I was 90 percent convinced that I wasn\u2019t going to play, but it\u2019s not fair. Not a single person out there did I tell to bet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Another Costume, Another Entrance<\/h2>\n<p>Now that he is officially back in, Hellmuth will continue his tradition of making a theatrical entrance. Over the years, he has entered the WSOP in costumes ranging from Gandalf and Darth Vader to Julius Caesar and a racecar driver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This year, he will show up as a 1980s rockstar with the theme \u201cHighway to Hellmuth.\u201d<\/strong> As part of his BetRivers deal, he also plans to give away a Ford Mustang.
