Through this project, a local recycling system that turns used cards into environmentally acceptable packaging will be established in partnership with Fnetlink Technology, a company based in Shenzhen.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, Macau\u2019s casinos burn about five tons of playing cards, which adds to the city\u2019s air pollution. MGM intends to lessen environmental damage and establish a new standard for sustainability in the gaming sector by implementing this recycling initiative.<\/p>\n<h2>A Smart, Automated Recycling System<\/h2>\n<p>MGM and Fnetlink have been working together since 2023 to develop what they describe as <em>\u201cthe world\u2019s first smart, automated card-shredding solution.\u201d T<\/em>his innovative system will process used playing cards into high-quality recycled fibers without water, making it more sustainable than traditional recycling methods.<\/p>\n<p>By implementing this system, MGM will become the first integrated resort in Macau to introduce a fully localized playing card recycling solution.<\/p>\n<p>MGM\u2019s Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Sustainability, Keith Lei, emphasized the project\u2019s importance:<em> \u201cThis groundbreaking initiative gives new life to our used playing cards. It empowers the circular economy and supports Macau\u2019s development into a low-carbon, diversified economy. A recent survey found that 40% of Macau residents rarely or never recycle.<\/p>\n<p>MGM has yet to announce a specific timeline for the full implementation of the recycling system.
