The issue came to light during MGE\u2019s fourth-quarter earnings call, where Chief Financial Officer Ari Glazer confirmed that the company received notice from the lending agent to accelerate the debt.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"444\" data-end=\"622\"><em>\u201cJust a few hours ago, we received notice from the agent for the lenders to MGE Korea Limited, the parent company of Inspire, that they have accelerated the debt,\u201d<\/em> Glazer said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"624\" data-end=\"845\">Bain Capital, the primary lender, has the right to take action, including claiming shares of MGE Korea Limited. Glazer stated, <em>\u201cWe\u2019re evaluating the propriety of these actions and considering the appropriate responses.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"894\">Financial Struggles Follow Early Optimism<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"1156\">Mohegan Inspire, a $1.7 billion integrated resort in Incheon, opened in March 2024. By the end of fiscal 2024, EBITDA fell to $349 million, down nearly $51 million. The drop was partly due to costs associated with opening Inspire and lower-than-expected revenue at the resort\u2019s foreigners-only casino.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1699\" data-end=\"1738\">Debt Risks and Future Uncertainty<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1989\">MGE <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/casino-news\/mohegan-inspire-faces-financial-strain-with-debt-deadlines-and-legal-issues\/\">previously stated<\/a><\/strong> that it could not guarantee a successful refinancing of $275 million in Bain-backed loans and other financial obligations. A failure to refinance could trigger defaults, raising doubts about the company\u2019s financial stability.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1991\" data-end=\"2272\">In its earnings report, MGE acknowledged the risks tied to its debt and potential covenant violations, warning investors of potential financial instability. However, Glazer reassured stakeholders that the South Korean debt issue does not impact MGE\u2019s other financial obligations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2659\"><em>\u201cThe South Korean debt crisis does not result in a cross-default to any other Mohegan debt,\u201d<\/em> Glazer said. <em>\u201cNevertheless, while we do not expect any material impact on our operations at any of our North American properties in the first quarter, we do need to evaluate the impact of these events on our overall financial reporting.
