A recent analysis by the National Centre for Social Research, commissioned by GambleAware, looks at how well different treatments work to lessen the negative effects of gambling. The study examines the advantages, difficulties, and gaps in psychological and psychosocial therapy by analyzing data released between 2020 and 2024.<\/p>\n

The results highlight how well Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works to treat gambling-related problems. Other intervention strategies are also highlighted in the research, including residential treatment, peer-led support groups, helplines, programs for individuals impacted by someone else\u2019s gambling, motivational interventions, and more. Although CBT proved to be the most successful strategy, other approaches also produced encouraging outcomes.<\/p>\n

The review points out a significant focus on gambling-specific measures like the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI). However, it notes that broader metrics, such as mental health and financial well-being, often receive less attention. Most of the existing evidence evaluates short-term outcomes, typically assessed before and after treatment, leaving a gap in understanding long-term impacts.<\/p>\n

To address these gaps, the report suggests healthcare providers and service organizations prioritize further research. It emphasizes the need for studies that assess long-term outcomes and explore the broader impact of gambling-related harm on mental health and financial stability.<\/p>\n

The review outlines key recommendations for improving intervention effectiveness and evidence gathering. These include expanding research to cover diverse populations, exploring new intervention types, and enhancing the evaluation of existing treatments. By addressing these gaps, stakeholders can build a more comprehensive understanding of how to combat gambling harms effectively.<\/p>\n
