569 Indonesian citizens have been arrested by Philippine authorities in connection with illicit online gambling activities in a major enforcement action. The arrests were verified by Inspector General Krishna Murti, Indonesia\u2019s National Police\u2019s head of international affairs, at a press conference on Wednesday in Tangerang, Banten.<\/p>\n

The Indonesian nationals were apprehended during a raid conducted at the Tourist Garden Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu province, on August 31, 2024. This operation was a direct response to the illicit activities of an offshore gaming operator. Murti clarified that these individuals are not victims of human trafficking, stating, \u201cThey are not part of victims of the human trafficking but they are the perpetrators who consciously offered themselves to work in the Philippines,\u201d<\/em> according to ANTARA news agency.<\/p>\n

Investigations Uncover Broader Criminal Network<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In addition to the arrests, the Philippine police investigation resulted in the capture of the internet gambling operation\u2019s mastermind. They also captured Indonesian operators who ran the gambling establishments. Most are in the process of being deported, but two are still in detention.<\/p>\n

The repatriation of those who have been held has already begun. The first set of 35 Indonesians went home earlier this month. On October 22\u201323, a second batch of 32 was deported, and flights were arranged to Manado, Jakarta, and Medan.<\/p>\n

Murti emphasized the need for further investigation, stating, \u201cWe should reveal the organizers and the scheme. We will conduct an in-depth investigation regarding this matter.\u201d<\/em> As authorities delve deeper, they aim to uncover the broader network behind these illegal operations<\/a>.<\/p>\n
