In New York, new laws have been passed with the intention of strengthening consumer protection in gaming advertisements. Governor Kathy Hochul has approved Legislation S1550\/A1118, which requires warnings about potential addiction and associated risks to be included in advertisements for sports betting<\/a> and gambling. This program is an attempt to encourage responsible gaming throughout the entire state.<\/p>\n

The new rule mandates that strong warnings about the addictive nature of gambling be included in all gaming commercials. This requirement expands on earlier rules that required advertising to provide a helpline number for problem gambling. The Act clarifies that mobile sports wagering promos are subject to the same regulations as all other gaming marketing, guaranteeing consistent messaging across platforms.<\/p>\n

To enforce these new guidelines, the State Gaming Commission will collaborate with the Commissioner of Addiction Services and Supports. Together, they will ensure that all gambling-related promotions include a hotline number for problem gambling assistance, providing an essential resource for those in need.<\/p>\n

Governor Hochul emphasized the significance of these regulations, stating, \u201cProtecting New Yorkers from the dangerous and addictive effects of problem gambling and sports betting is vitally important for the prosperity of our great state. I want New Yorkers to be able to safely enjoy the activities they love, while proceeding with caution when necessary. I\u2019m confident that with the signing of this new bill, New Yorkers will have easier access to the safety resources they need to better protect themselves from the grips of addiction.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Commitment to Responsible Gaming<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brian O\u2019Dwyer, Chair of the New York State Gaming Commission, also praised the legislation. He noted, \u201cNew York State recognizes the importance of responsible gaming practices and has strong safeguards in place to protect and educate bettors. While the Gaming Commission already requires sports wagering operators to include problem gambling messaging on all advertisements, we are encouraged that this common-sense measure has been codified into state law.\u201d<\/em> O\u2019Dwyer added that the bill aligns with the state\u2019s commitment to responsible gaming policies.<\/p>\n
