The newcomer to the New Zealand wagering market since the TAB\u2019s founding in 1950 is called betcha. Betcha, which was introduced by Entain Australia and New Zealand, represents a substantial change in the local betting market. The creation of betcha was a reaction to the increasing danger that offshore betting companies posed to New Zealand\u2019s sports and racing industries, according to Cameron Rodger, Managing Director of Entain Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the three months to the end of June 2024, New Zealanders\u2019 spending with offshore betting operators grew by 30%, continuing a trend over the last three or more years,\u201d<\/em> Rodger stated. He further highlighted that offshore betting now exceeds $180 million annually, with a notable increase in spending among 18-29-year-olds. Rodger pointed out that this offshore activity contributes little to the local industry and lacks the robust harm minimization support that betcha plans to offer.<\/p>\n

betcha\u2019s Unique Appeal and Social Approach<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unlike traditional brands like TAB, which has a longstanding presence in New Zealand, betcha aims to appeal to a new generation of bettors. Entain\u2019s Chief Marketing Officer, Mel Kenneday, described betcha as a digital-only brand that emphasizes social interaction. The platform allows users to create syndicates and place bets with friends, enhancing the social experience of wagering.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new brand will emphasize the social and competitive value of sports and racing and introduce New Zealanders to the next generation of betting,\u201d<\/em> said Kenneday. She noted that betcha would focus on sports and events that resonate with younger audiences, such as football, basketball, and UFC. Notably, betcha has already secured a partnership as New Zealand\u2019s official wagering partner for UFC.<\/p>\n
