The court\u2019s decision, recognizing poker and rummy as games of skill, has significant implications for the booming online gaming market in India, a country with a population exceeding 1.4 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Roland Landers, CEO of the All India Gaming Federation, expressed his gratitude for the ruling. \u201cWe are truly grateful for this landmark decision by the Honorable Madras High Court upholding the difference between games of skill and chance in line with over six decades of jurisprudence on the subject,\u201d he said. The justices have allowed the state to regulate online rummy and poker, including aspects like the minimum age for playing, permissible timings, and other relevant considerations.<\/p>\n<p>During the legal proceedings, gaming companies argued against the ban, emphasizing their operation within legal frameworks by paying goods and services taxes (GST) and only charging fees for providing a competitive platform. They contended that if games of chance were legal in physical venues, they should not be banned online.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side, Tamil Nadu government officials, as <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/chennai\/madras-high-court-sets-aside-tamil-nadu-govts-ban-on-online-rummy-and-poker\/articleshow\/105091983.cms\">reported<\/a> by the Times of India, argued that the ban\u2019s removal hadn\u2019t been contested by any aggrieved players.
