Despite the BGC\u2019s efforts to impose new standards for online advertising, their progress is hampered by the acts of social media platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The BGC\u2019s Chief Executive, Michael Dugher, has written to Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer MP, encouraging her to increase pressure on social media sites as part of the government\u2019s initiative to address problem gambling, particularly among people under the age of 25. BGC members, on the other hand, believe that more collaboration is needed to execute further measures, notably for people who have registered with the industry self-exclusion tool, GAMSTOP.<\/p>\n<p>The industry wants to set up a \u201cmarketing suppression scheme\u201d to prevent direct promotion of betting and gaming products to the 300,000 people who have registered with GAMSTOP through social media channels.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter to Mrs Frazer, Mr Dugher states, \u201cThis is impossible to achieve without the cooperation of the social media platforms themselves. This is a sensible solution, which BGC members are keen on implementing, but we cannot do so without the cooperation of social media platforms.
