The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is taking Wynn Resorts<\/a> founder Steve Wynn to court alleging he has been acting as an agent of the Chinese government by trying to influence Donald Trump when Trump was President.<\/p>\n

As reported by\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>, the DOJ\u2019s lawsuit claims Wynn asked Trump, at the request of China, to deport Chinese businessman Guo Wengui who seeked asylum in the United States. Go had fled to the US in 2014 after being accused of bribery and sexual assault.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit is trying to force Wynn to register as an agent of the Chinese government under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Wynn had refused to do so on three previous occasions in 2018, 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n

Matthew G Olsen, assistant attorney general of the Justice Department\u2019s national security division, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe filing of this suit \u2014 the first affirmative civil lawsuit under FARA in more than three decades \u2014 demonstrates the department\u2019s commitment to ensuring transparency in our democratic system.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Olsen added:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere a foreign government uses an American as its agent to influence policy decisions in the United States, FARA gives the American people a right to know.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Currently 80 years of age, Wynn stepped down as Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts in early 2018 after being accused of sexual misconduct, thereby selling of his entire 12.1% share in the company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wynn Resorts currently operates two integrated resorts in Macau, Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, under its majority-owned subsidiary, Wynn Macau Ltd.<\/p>\n
