{"id":3516,"date":"2022-04-16T07:38:52","date_gmt":"2022-04-16T07:38:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slategray-wallaby-310340.hostingersite.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/16\/online-poker-sports-betting-in-kentucky-got-benched-on-thursday\/"},"modified":"2022-04-16T07:38:52","modified_gmt":"2022-04-16T07:38:52","slug":"online-poker-sports-betting-in-kentucky-got-benched-on-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casino-online-best.com\/index.php\/2022\/04\/16\/online-poker-sports-betting-in-kentucky-got-benched-on-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"<div>Online Poker &amp; Sports Betting in Kentucky Got Benched on Thursday<\/div>"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Online poker and sports betting will not be coming to Kentucky this year and the next year seems out of range as well.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Bill <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/22RS\/hb606\/bill.pdf\">HB 606<\/a>, that would have\u00a0legalized online poker and sports betting in Kentucky, failed to make it out of committee on the last day of the legislative session for 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Tourism, &#038; Labor, but unfortunately never made it to a vote.<\/p>\n<p>A second Bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/22RS\/hb609\/bill.pdf\">HB 609<\/a>, did not make it past another committee, the Senate Committee on Appropriations and Revenue. If successful it would have called for the start of a problem gambling initiative funded by the $50 million that the state received after a $300 million settlement with online operator <a href=\"https:\/\/igaming.org\/poker\/pokerstars\/\">PokerStars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Senate Majority Floor Leader, Damon Thayor, expressed his disappointment:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t about not having enough votes in [the GOP] caucus. It was about not having enough votes, period \u2014 Republicans and Democrats. On the last whip count, the undecideds that were worked pretty heavily by the advocates for sports betting over the last week, all swung to \u2018no.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m disappointed. I am for sports betting. I want to make it clear that I did everything I could to get it passed, but I can\u2019t force people to vote \u2018yes\u2019 on something that they are opposed to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thayer remained optimistic nevertheless and added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI think the advocates should be optimistic. Sports betting got further in the Kentucky General Assembly than ever. It\u2019s always going to be very difficult because of the religious concerns in rural areas especially.
