Regulatory uncertainty still leaves the Australian casino group facing material going concern risk.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Good to Know<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Star Entertainment reported a $307.3 million net loss after tax for FY2026, compared with $427.9 million a year earlier.<\/li>\n<li>Normalised EBITDA improved from a $76.2 million loss to a $16.1 million loss.<\/li>\n<li>Combined July revenue from The Star Sydney and The Star Gold Coast rose 6%, providing an early indication of better trading after year end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong>Cost Cuts Improve Star Entertainment Results<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Revenue offered little growth during the year. Statutory revenue reached $1.31 billion in Australian dollars, up just 0.5%, while normalised revenue fell 2.2% to $1.10 billion. Even so, Star cut corporate costs by about $75 million and reduced its normalised EBITDA loss by 78.9%.<\/p>\n<p>The statutory $307.3 million loss, equal to about $220 million in US dollars, came in above a Visible Alpha analyst consensus loss estimate of $180 million. Star declared no dividend.<\/p>\n<p>Bally\u2019s Corp became the largest Star Entertainment shareholder after shareholders approved a $300 million rescue investment in 2025. Bally\u2019s chairman Soo Kim later took the chairman role at Star Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Kim said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile we are no strangers to casino turnarounds, The Star [Entertainment] is one of the most complex challenges we have encountered.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Financing also changed considerably during FY2026. Star completed a $390 million secured term loan with WhiteHawk Capital Partners, adding about $130 million in available liquidity. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $267 million at June 30, alongside $101 million in restricted deposits.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Brisbane Exit Cuts Debt Exposure<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Star also completed the first stage of its exit from Destination Brisbane Consortium on March 31. The transaction released the parent company guarantee covering half of the $1.4 billion debt facilities attached to the consortium. A second stage remains due by March 31, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, The Star Brisbane is producing stronger operating numbers. The property recorded an average monthly EBITDAM run rate of about $13 million during the three months through June, according to Star.<\/p>\n<p>Kim said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMost critically, monthly revenues are no longer declining year-on-year, and the business is cash flow positive for the first time in years.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Trading improved further after the reporting period. Combined revenue from The Star Sydney and The Star Gold Coast increased 6% in July compared with the prior year.<\/p>\n<p>The financial recovery remains tied to regulatory outcomes. Star said material uncertainties continue to create substantial doubt over its ability to remain a going concern. Key issues include restoring the casino licence for The Star Sydney and removing the suspension hanging over the licence for The Star Gold Coast.
