It used a black brick wall background, five game tiles, \u201c18+\u201d, BeGambleAware.org, GAMSTOP, and \u201cPlay Responsibly\u201d messages.<\/p>\n<p>Videoslots Ltd, trading as Mr Vegas, argued that the tiles showed official slot artwork from licensed adult gambling games. The company said cartoon graphics do not automatically break UK ad rules and must be judged by context.<\/p>\n<p>ASA agreed on part of that point, but still upheld the complaint on 1 July 2026. The regulator said gambling ads must avoid content with strong appeal to children or young people, even where adults may also like it.<\/p>\n<p>Pink Elephants 2 created the clearest issue. ASA said the large pink cartoon elephant, lilac background, soft colours, and animal style looked \u201ccute\u201d rather than scary. The regulator also saw a similarity to imagery and font linked with Ice Age, a franchise popular with children.<\/p>\n<p>Razor Returns also failed. Mr Vegas described the robotic shark as aggressive, metallic, and aimed at adult players. ASA accepted that it was not \u201ccute\u201d, but said a robot shark with exaggerated features, big teeth, and a bright seascape still created strong under 18 appeal.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why Two Tiles Passed<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>ASA cleared Sweet Bonanza because the candy theme did not include a clear character, mascot, or feature likely to appeal strongly to under 18s. The bright bubbly text and blue and pink background were not enough on their own.<\/p>\n<p>Big Bass Bonanza also passed. ASA said the fisherman could appear in animation for children, but he looked more life like, wore muted green and khaki colours, and held a fish that looked less exaggerated. The regulator also treated fishing as an activity with limited appeal to children.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling forms part of a wider ASA workstream on gambling ads, based on complaints and intelligence gathered by the regulator. Related rulings were also published on 27 May.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Age Controls Did Not Save The Ad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Mr Vegas said the ad used an 18 plus minimum age setting inside Meta Ads Manager. It also said custom and lookalike audiences came from verified adult customer data, with no youth heavy audience segments selected.<\/p>\n<p>ASA said those controls still did not create a fully adult audience. Ofcom data from May 2025 showed 56 percent of parents of 16 to 17 year olds said their child used Facebook. Another Ofcom survey found that 20 percent of social media users aged eight to 17 had registered on an online service as age 18 or older.<\/p>\n<p>Because Facebook age checks rely partly on self declared age, ASA concluded that a meaningful number of under 18s could still see the Mr Vegas ad.<\/p>\n<p>The ad breached CAP Code rule 16.3.12 on gambling.
