He became the top WSOP tournament earner in razz history, moving past Phil Hellmuth with $759,280 in career earnings in the lowball stud format.

The victory also gave Anderson his second title in the $10,000 Razz Championship. He first won the same event in 2018, when he claimed his second overall bracelet. Since then, he has built one of the strongest mixed game resumes at the series, including the 2024 $10,000 eight-game championship.

“It’s a really cool thing to win the same thing again,” Anderson told PokerNews after his win. “It kind of shows that it’s a testament to the skill set. Most people kind of shit on razz a little bit. I mean, almost the whole tournament everybody was like, ‘Oh, there’s no skill set in this and just all about getting lucky and all this stuff.’ That’s what you want people to think, right?”

Event #48 drew 155 entries and came down to a long final table. Anderson began the final day near the top with Eric Rodawig, and the two eventually met heads up. Tobias Leknes created the early drama by eliminating Philip Sternheimer, Max Kruse, and Yuval Bronshtein in quick order before Anderson stopped his run in fourth place.

The final table then slowed into a grind. Todd Dakake survived several short stack spots and even grabbed the lead during three handed play, but Rodawig eventually knocked him out in third. Anderson took a lead into heads up play and closed it out when his made eight seven low held, while Rodawig bricked out after starting strong.

Final Table Results

Place

Player

Payout

1

Calvin Anderson

$357,026

2

Eric Rodawig

$237,851

3

Todd Dakake

$162,551

4

Tobias Leknes

$114,032

5

Yuval Bronshtein

$82,171

6

Max Kruse

$60,868

7

Philip Sternheimer

$46,385

8

Shane Littlefield

$36,395

Johnson Ends Long No Limit Hold’em Wait

Johnson had already won two WSOP bracelets, but neither came in no-limit hold’em. That changed in Event #49, where he outlasted 1,561 entries in the $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em event for a career best $513,885 score.

The win carried extra weight because of Johnson long history with the format. In 2008, he came heads up for his first bracelet against Alexandre Gomes and had pocket aces all in against A-10. Gomes made trip tens, Johnson missed his one out, and the bracelet slipped away.

Johnson won WSOP bracelets in 2013 and 2016 before finally adding no-limit hold’em gold 18 years after the Gomes hand.

Event #49 used a freezeout format, giving each player one entry. The field built a $3,473,225 prize pool, and Johnson entered the final day fifth in chips with 28 players left. Faraz Jaka began the day as chip leader, while Chino Rheem battled up from one of the shorter stacks.

Johnson took control at the final table after his pocket kings held against Sebastian Schulze A-K. From there, he removed Schulze and Pyeongkang Kim, while Kenzo Ishida kept pressure on by eliminating Elliot Smith, Srivinay Irrinki, and Jaka. Rheem then doubled through Ishida three handed, Johnson knocked out Ishida in third, and heads up began with Johnson ahead.

Rheem briefly cut into the gap when pocket aces held against Johnson pocket jacks. Johnson rebuilt the lead and ended it with A-5 suited against Rheem A-4. The flop gave Johnson a wheel, and the turn and river failed to save Rheem.

Rheem earned $341,970 for second place. He now has five runner up finishes at the WSOP, along with World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour titles, but the first bracelet still remains out of reach.

Final Table Results

Place

Player

Payout

1

Marco Johnson

$513,885

2

Chino Rheem

$341,970

3

Kenzo Ishida

$246,800

4

Faraz Jaka

$180,210

5

Srivinay Irrinki

$133,170

6

Vamerdino Magsakay

$99,590

7

Elliot Smith

$75,390

8

Pyeongkang Kim

$57,780

9

Sebastian Schulze

$44,840

The post Calvin Anderson And Marco Johnson Win WSOP Bracelets appeared first on iGaming.org.

Calvin Anderson and Marco Johnson both added new World Series of Poker bracelets, but their wins told very different stories.
