Governor Bill Lee signed the new law after lawmakers sent him the bill on May 11.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em><strong>Good to Know<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>The ban covers dual currency sweepstakes casino sites with slots, bingo, video poker, lottery-style games and table games.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Tennessee still allows licensed online sports betting, but not regulated online casino gaming.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Chumba Casino, Fortune Coins, Global Poker, Luckyland and Zula Casino had already left the state.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<p>The new law combines Senate Bill 2136 and House Bill 1885. Instead of targeting sports betting, it focuses on sweepstakes platforms that use virtual coins and promotional credits while offering games that look like casino gambling.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee now becomes the seventh U.S. state to prohibit sweepstakes casino operations, joining California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Montana and Louisiana. The wider U.S. fight has picked up since California AB 831 took effect in January 2026, while Indiana and Oklahoma have also moved toward bans.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennessee Gives Regulators More Room To Act<\/h2>\n<p>Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti pushed the issue before the bill reached the governor. It passed a House subcommittee 8-0, the Senate 32-0, the House State and Local Government Committee 21-0, and then the full House 69-17.<\/p>\n<p>The law also expands enforcement under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act of 1977.
